She’s Diane Pernet: an American journalist, photographer, blogger and fashion talent scout who lives in Paris, famous for her concept fashion blog based on videos A Shaded View on Fashion (also included in ASVOFF fashion film festival) and for her unmistakable total black concept that has made her famous around the world. Any peculiarities? A long black veil above elaborated hairstyles, black sunglasses and a broad skirt.
This month theme for The12Project (a yearlong French project of fashion films and photographic editorials) is “art” and, as we are now accustomed to, the link between the theme, its development and its protagonists is everything but superficial.
I’m not surprised that October’s video sees Diane Pernet making her triumphal entrance and then impose herself at the very center of the screen while the animation surrounds her with figures of all the possible shapes, making her even more protagonist. The contrast is what stands out the most: Pernet image is a construction, not instinct. But basically the art, over the millennia, has not always subjected to these conflicting forces?
